Day-by-Day Itinerary
1Arrival in Arusha
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your Arusha hotel. Your guide welcomes the family and briefs everyone on what to expect over the next ten days.
2Arusha National Park
A short drive from town leads to Arusha National Park — an ideal introduction to African wildlife for families. Giraffe, zebra, and colobus monkeys are reliably spotted, and the park's varied habitats include montane forest, crater lakes, and open savannah. Leopards patrol the forest edges, while Lake Momela mirrors the outline of Mount Meru on calm mornings.
3Drive to Tarangire National Park
Head south to Tarangire National Park, where the largest elephant herds in Tanzania gather around the seasonal river. The enormous baobab trees are particularly impressive for younger travellers — some have been growing for over a thousand years.
4Tarangire — Full Day
A complete day exploring Tarangire's varied habitats. Morning drives focus on the river corridor where elephants wade and splash. Afternoon drives push into the open woodland where lion prides rest and leopards drape themselves across branches.
5Lake Manyara and Mto wa Mbu Village
Drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive featuring tree-climbing lions, dense flamingo flocks, and the lush groundwater forest. Afterwards, explore Mto wa Mbu — a remarkable trading town of 18,000 people representing 120 different ethnic groups. Optional activities include bicycle tours through rice paddies and tuk-tuk rides through the market.
6Ngorongoro and Olduvai Gorge
Descend into Ngorongoro Crater — the world's largest intact volcanic caldera and home to around 30,000 animals. The Big Five all reside here. En route, stop at Olduvai Gorge, where the Leakey family's excavations uncovered 1.8-million-year-old human ancestors. The on-site museum brings the story to life for curious minds of every age.
7Transfer to the Serengeti
Drive across the Ngorongoro highlands and onto the sweeping Serengeti plains. An afternoon arrival allows for a game drive through Seronera valley, one of the best areas in Tanzania for year-round big cat sightings.
8Serengeti — Full Day
A full day in the Serengeti with morning and afternoon game drives. The guide tailors the experience for younger family members — explaining animal behaviour, tracking signs, and identifying birds. Lion cubs, baby elephants, and playful warthog families are crowd favourites.
9Serengeti — Final Game Drives
One last day on the Serengeti plains. Optional sunrise game drive for early risers catches predators returning from night hunts. Afternoon at leisure or optional hot air balloon safari (additional cost). Sundowner and campfire stories close the safari.
10Fly Out — Departure
Board the light aircraft from the Serengeti airstrip back to Arusha, then connect to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your international flight home. The family carries ten days of extraordinary memories.
