Day-by-Day Itinerary
1Arrive Kigali
Arrive at Kigali International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Kigali is one of Africa's cleanest and most organised capital cities — an ideal introduction to Rwanda.
2Kigali Genocide Memorial
Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which honours the 250,000 victims buried on the grounds and traces the history of the 1994 genocide through survivor testimonies, photographs, and documentary film. The memorial is both deeply moving and essential context for understanding modern Rwanda. Afternoon free to explore Kigali's vibrant arts district.
3Drive to Ruhengeri — Virungas Views
A four-hour drive northwest to Ruhengeri (Musanze) through Rwanda's famous Thousand Hills. The Virunga volcano chain rises dramatically above the surrounding farmland. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant in the highlands and arrive in Ruhengeri by early evening.
4Mountain Gorilla Trek — Volcanoes National Park
One of the world's most extraordinary wildlife experiences. Set out from Kinigi ranger station with your professional guide and armed rangers to locate a habituated gorilla family in the bamboo forests of the Virungas. Upon encounter, you spend one hour with these remarkable primates — watching silverbacks command their families, mothers nurse infants, and juveniles play overhead. Visit the Muheza gorilla veterinary project to learn about conservation efforts.
5Golden Monkey Tracking
Return to Volcanoes National Park to track the endangered golden monkey — an electric blue-gold primate found only in the Virunga mountains. The forest path differs from the gorilla trek, offering new perspectives on the bamboo habitat. Gazelles and antelopes graze the forest edges in the afternoon.
6Fly to the Serengeti
Morning transfer to Kigali Airport and fly to the Serengeti. The flight path takes you over Rwanda's thousand hills and across the border into Tanzania's vast savannah — a dramatic shift in landscape. Land at Seronera and begin your first afternoon game drive on the plains.
7Serengeti — Full Day
A complete day in the central Serengeti. Big cats, wildebeest herds, and the iconic acacia landscape provide rich game viewing from morning through evening. Sundowners on a kopje as the Serengeti sky turns gold.
8Serengeti — Further Exploration
Another full day tracking wildlife across the Serengeti plains. Your guide follows fresh intelligence to position you where lions are on the hunt or a cheetah has cubs in the grass.
9Ngorongoro Crater
Drive to Ngorongoro and descend into the crater for a full day with the Big Five. The enclosed caldera guarantees remarkable wildlife sightings in a spectacular volcanic setting.
10Lake Eyasi — Hadzabe Hunter-Gatherers
Drive to Lake Eyasi to spend the day with the Hadzabe people, one of Africa's last true hunter-gatherer communities. Join a morning hunt with traditional bows and arrows, witness fire-making techniques unchanged for millennia, and gain a profound understanding of a way of life at the very edge of modernity.
11Departure — Kilimanjaro International Airport
Transfer from Lake Eyasi to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home. Eleven days connecting two of Africa's most extraordinary countries.
