Day-by-Day Itinerary
1Arrive Nyerere National Park
Arrive at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam and transfer to your lodge inside Nyerere National Park on the banks of the Rufiji River. An optional sunset boat ride introduces you to the river's hippos and crocodiles on your first evening.
2Nyerere — Lion Country
Full day game drives in Nyerere National Park. Large lion prides move through the miombo woodland and open grasslands, sharing the landscape with elephant herds, buffalo, and giraffe. The scale of the park — larger than Switzerland — means encounters feel truly wild and unhurried.
3Nyerere — Rufiji River Sundowners
Morning game drive focusing on the woodland areas where leopards and wild dogs hunt. Afternoon boat safari on the Rufiji River — a unique perspective on African wildlife that few visitors ever experience. Sundowners by the water as hippos surface around the boat.
4Fly to Ruaha National Park
Board your light aircraft and fly west over the southern Tanzanian plains to Ruaha National Park. The bird's-eye view reveals the scale of the miombo woodland stretching to the horizon. An afternoon game drive at the Great Ruaha River sets the tone for what follows.
5Ruaha — Big Cats and Big Elephants
A full day in Ruaha — Tanzania's largest national park and one of Africa's greatest secrets. The predator density is extraordinary: lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs all inhabit the same landscape. Elephant herds number in the thousands. No tour bus convoys, no crowds — just you, your guide, and the wilderness.
6Ruaha — Remote Interior Drives
Push into the more remote areas of Ruaha. Sable antelope and greater kudu inhabit the dry miombo forest. The Great Ruaha River draws animals from across the region, and predator-prey interactions at the water's edge are a daily spectacle.
7Fly to Zanzibar
Morning game drive in Ruaha, then fly to Zanzibar. Touch down on this legendary spice island and transfer to your five-star beachfront resort. Spend the afternoon on the white sand, getting used to paradise.
8Zanzibar — Stone Town and Prison Island
Morning guided tour of Stone Town — UNESCO-listed and full of carved wooden doors, Arab arches, and Swahili cultural life. Boat trip to Prison Island, where giant Aldabra tortoises over 100 years old roam freely through the gardens. Afternoon dhow sunset cruise.
9Zanzibar — Dolphins and Spice Farm
Early morning boat trip to Kizimkazi to swim with wild spinner dolphins in the open ocean. Afternoon spice farm tour through plantations of cloves, cinnamon, vanilla, black pepper, and ylang-ylang. Evening cocktails at the resort as the sun drops into the Indian Ocean.
10Zanzibar — Beach Day
A completely free day on Zanzibar's legendary beaches. The turquoise water, white coral sand, and swaying palms are the perfect contrast to the intensity of the southern safari parks. Optional snorkelling, sailing, or kayaking.
11Departure
Morning at the beach, then transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your international connection home.
